The premise of this book is simple sin is dead. Not the state of sin, of course, but the word itself, and the impact of the word, which, for the better part of human history helped individuals and communities—both pagan and religious—recognize when they were “missing the mark.” Until we can make sin understood again, and begin to restore its rightful place at the breaking point of the human condition, none of the promises of God’s saving love will ring true.
Man turned in on himself is a Renaissance-era image of sin that reflects our modern day suffering— anxiety, depression, apathy, loss of purpose and community, our disordered relationship to technology—and calls it by its rightful name. Sin as “scarlet letter” has only pushed people further from grace. May sin as homo incurvatus in se help bring them back.

I did really like the gospel application at the end, not just "Society evil, Christian good!". We are sinners curved in the wrong way.I

Man Turned In On Himself Understanding Sin in 21stCentury America edition by Heather Choate Davis Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Heather Choate Davis is an incredibly insightful author. She writes well, and presents her thoughts and observations about faith, God, Jesus, theology, and society in a manner that is not only eminently readable, but which makes you think.
Her thesis, that we have turned on upon ourselves and away from God, is a hard lesson. But those lessons which are worth learning are often difficult. And Mrs. Davis delivers this lesson excellently.
I would highly recommend this book. And if you have the chance to see her speak in person, it is a real opportunity, not to be missed!
Great book. Very insightful.
A thought provoking look at mankind's sinful condition and how it infects every aspect of our being and our relationship with God and each other.
With her thesis, Heather Davis lays out practical tools for reaching unbelievers with the truth of our state here on earth and how to lead them to resolution and true freedom!
Well written and insightful as a tool to engage in the 21st century conversation about sin (or lack of conversation). Not super in-depth (by design I believe), but still deep enough to challenge some readers preconceptions or biases.
a Must read...
It felt like a modern rehash of Martin Luther’s “Bondage of the Will”. Had some good points but felt a little short.
I did really like the gospel application at the end, not just "Society evil, Christian good!". We are sinners curved in the wrong way.
